Ever since AMC’s spin-off show Fear the Walking Dead was announced, people thought there would eventually be some form of crossover with The Walking Dead. (And if you don’t want to know how that crossover will finally happen i.e. a spoiler for last night’s episode, you’ll want to stop reading here.)
On last night’s episode, it was revealed that Lennie James, who plays the popular Morgan Jones, will be the character that bridges the two shows. In fact, James will start filming on the first episode of Fear the Walking Dead Season 4 today.
It’s a sweet decision for those who have been following the series from the very beginning and remember James’ Morgan as the first person Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes encountered when he woke up from a coma into a zombie-filled world.
Because it’s known that Fear the Walking Dead takes place earlier in the timeline of said world, it’s presumed that Morgan’s appearance on the show will be a flashback for the character who only began playing a significant role on The Walking Dead starting with Season 5.
Last night, showrunner Scott M. Gimple also read a statement on the companion show Talking Dead that helps clarify James’ role on the two shows. “Even though Morgan is going to be featured on Fear, he has a lot of story left on The Walking Dead, Morgan’s arc on The Walking Dead Season 8 positioned him for the story on Fear. It was also important to see Fear’s world and characters through new yet familiar eyes.”
