The Writers Guild Initiative (WGI) has selected Bo Shim of New York University to receive the 2016 Michael Collyer Memorial Fellowship in Screenwriting. The fellowship is awarded to a student who plans to pursue a career in screenwriting upon completion of his or her undergraduate studies. Shim’s fellowship project, SISTER OF A GODDESS, centers on two Nepalese sisters and the family bonds that bind them and pull them apart as one is chosen to be the next Royal Kumari of Kathmandu. Shim is the eighth Collyer Fellow–the third to emerge from NYU.
“I am incredibly honored to receive the 2016 Michael Collyer Memorial Fellowship in Screenwriting,” Shim said. “I would like to give my sincerest thanks to everyone who made this fellowship possible, to my professors at NYU for their invaluable guidance as well as my friends and family for their love and support. I look forward to the exciting year ahead.”
Shim will be presented with the award, which includes a $10,000 stipend to write an original screenplay under the mentorship of writer James V. Hart, at the 68th annual WGA Awards on Saturday, February 13th.
