Jennifer Aniston is boarding the adaptation of the novel The Yellow Birds alongside Jack Huston. Written by Kevin Powers, the novel is a look at the harrowing lives of two soldiers in Iraq and the effects of war on their families at home. Tye Sheridan and Alden Ehrenreich will star as the two lead soldiers, while Huston takes on the role of their sergeant which Benedict Cumberbatch was previously attached to. Aniston will play the mother of the younger soldier. Alexandre Moors is set to direct, replacing Will and David Lowery.
Aniston will play the mother of Tye Sheridan’s character, to whom Ehrenreich’s character makes a promise that he will not let her son die in the war. This is the second confirmed attachment for Aniston this week, as she’s signed on for the lead in another literary adaptation, Liane Moriarty’s What Alice Forgot. Huston may be most famous for his role in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire. He recently shot the remake of the classic Ben-Hur playing the titular character.
Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon will produce The Yellow Birds for Cinelou Films and will be produced and financed by the Story Mining & Supply Co. Jeffrey Sharp and Evan Hayes will produce and Jim Kohlberg will executive produce for Story.
