StudioCanal financed HOW TO STOP TIME has tapped Anthony McCarten to adapt the Matt Haig novel. The project stars Benedict Cumberbatch who is also executive producing through his SunnyMarch Productions with Canongate CEO Jamie Byng.
The story follows Cumberbatch as Tom Hazard, a man who may look like an ordinary 41-year-old but, owing to an extremely rare condition, has been alive for centuries.
StudioCanal is fully financing the film and will distribute in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.
McCarten is best known for writing the feature adaptation of The Theory of Everything which starred Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, going on to net five Oscar nominations. He also wrote the scripts for the upcoming Darkest Hour and Bohemian Rhapsody, the Freddie Mercury biopic starring Rami Malek.
McCarten is represented by ICM Partners.
