The Toronto International Film Festival may have gotten off to a slow start with deals this year but now, with only a few more days left of the festival (it ends Sunday), sales of distribution rights are happening left and right. One of the latest deals is for MESSAGE FROM THE KING, an upcoming film starring Captain America: Civil War’s Chadwick Boseman. Reports say that Netflix is close to securing an exclusive deal for the film in the mid-seven-figure range.
The film, which Boseman is also producing, is a story of revenge. When Jacob King (Boseman) travels from South Africa to Los Angeles to search for his sister, he discovers she’s been murdered. After this reveal, he has six days to avenge her death. The film also stars Luke Evans, Teresa Palmer, Alfred Molina, Natalie Martinez, Tom Felton, and Dale Dickey.
Fabrice Du Weiz directed the drama from a script by Stephen Cornwell and Oliver Butcher who are also producing alongside David Lancaster and Logan Coles. The film premiered at TIFF in the Vanguard section.
WME Global is brokering the deal, which is said to be for the U.S. as well as some foreign territories.
