In one of the few deals to come out of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival thus far, Orion and BH Tilt have acquired THE BELKO EXPERIMENT, a high-concept thriller written by Guardians of the Galaxy’s James Gunn and directed by Wolf Creek helmer Greg McLean.
The story revolves around the American Belko company in South America, which is mysteriously sealed off at the beginning of a work day, and its employees are ordered to kill each other or be killed themselves. The genre fare was well-suited for the Midnight Madness showing, where it was well received by the audience.
“I can’t imagine a better home for us than BH Tilt,” said Gunn, who also produced by the film alonside Peter Safran, in response to the film’s acquisition. “A movie as edgy and unique as Belko needs a deft hand for its release, and BH Tilt is the deftest of them all.”
The cast includes Guardians’ Michael Rooker, Tony Goldwyn, John Gallagher Jr., Josh Brener, and Melonie Diaz.
The film is expected to hit theaters on March 17th, 2017.
