I had this strange feeling that Universal Pictures would use the release of their R-rated comedy Blockers on Friday to premiere the first trailer for Malcolm D. Lee’s NIGHT SCHOOL, starring Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish. Sure enough, the Sept. 28 release looks as funny as one might expect with the pairing of these two comedy juggernauts.
Putting Haddish on screen with the already-popular Kevin Hart makes Night School look like it could be even funnier and bigger, although one would think Universal and Packer would want to give the movie a summer release. Maybe the Sept. release is meant to be timed with the new school season, although it’s also timed with the fall TV season, so it will be a good test for Hart and Haddish’s drawing power.
The movie co-stars Rob Riggle, Taran Killam and Romany Malco, and it’s produced by Hart through his Hartbeat Productions, along with Packer and Will Packer Productions. Malcolm D. Lee, Preston Holmes and James Lopez are exec. producers.
