Tika Sumpter has joined the cast of GET ON UP alongside Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, James DuMont, Dan Aykroyd, Jill Scott and Keith Robinson. The story follows the life and times of James Brown (Boseman), an American singer and songwriter often referred to as “The Godfather of Soul” who was renowned for his vocals and feverish dancing. Sumpter will play Yvonne Fair, a singer in the James Brown Revue.
John Henry Butterworth and Jez Butterworth wrote the most current draft that Tate Taylor (“The Help”) will direct. Producing will be Taylor, Brian Grazer, Victoria Pearman and Erica Huggins.
Sumpter last appeared in “Sparkle” and will soon turn up in the Ice Cube and Kevin Hart vehicle “Ride Along” (see what I did there) and “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas.”
She is repped by WME.
