Anyone paying attention to the Oscars this year was probably impressed by the nomination for 21-year-old actor Timothée Chalamet, who blew so many people away in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name, and was one of last year’s breakout stars. Chalamet continues to score leading roles including one in filmmaker Elijah Bynum’s HOT SUMMER NIGHTS, which A24 has just released a trailer and poster for.
In the film, Chalamet plays a “quiet teenager transformed by a gift for drug-slinging,” and it co-stars Maika Monroe (It Follows) and Alex Roe.
The film is Elijah Bynum’s very first feature as a writer and director, and it received some decent buzz out of the SXSW Film Festival last month.
It looks like another great coming-of-age film from the studio that brought us Lady Bird (also starring Chalamet) and the upcoming Eighth Grade, although this one has a drugdealing storyline that puts it in the vein of Jonathan Levine’s underrated The Wackness.
A24 will release Bynum’s film on July 27, and you can watch the trailer below.
