The Tracking Board has confirmed that actor Tobey Maguire is making his directorial debut with an adaptation of the Jo Nesbo thriller BLOOD ON SNOW. Maguire will also produce with his Material banner alongside Lawrence Grey and his Grey Matter Productions outfit, with Nesbo penning the script.
The Norwegian novel tells the story of contract killer Olav who is told to kill his adulterous wife — and instead, decides to go ofter his boss’ rival.
Joining the producing team will be Nesbo, his agent Niclas Salomonsson, as well as Material’s Matthew Plouffe and Grey Matter’s Ben Everard.
Previously, an adaptation of the novel was set up at Warner Bros. and Appian Way, with Chris Sparling adapting and Daniel Espinosa directing.
Most recently, Maguire voiced a role in DreamWork Animation’s The Boss Baby and produced last year’s film The 5th Wave. He’s also in development on John Crowley’s Embassy and is producing a slew of films, including Netflix and Justin Lin’s The Stand Off. He’s represented by WME and Management 360.
Nesbo has previously adapted his own work — Headhunters in 2012 and Jackpot in 2014. His novel The Snowman was adapted by Universal and is awaiting for release later this year. He’s repped by Salomonsson Agency and WME.
