Jake Gyllenhaal is now in the running for Warner Bros.’ SUICIDE SQUAD. Tom Hardy was initially cast, but has officially dropped out of the project, due to scheduling issues. Gyllenhaal is now being eyed as the studio’s top choice to replace Hardy as Rick Flagg, the leader of a dangerous task force of villains that are recruited by the government.
Should Gyllenhaal board the project, he’ll join Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevingne. David Ayer will direct from a script by Justin Marks.
Gyllenhaal recently gave an incredible performance as the shifty and calculating Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler and as a man haunted by his doppelganger in Enemy. He’ll next star in Southpaw, Demolition, and Everest.
Gyllenhaal is repped by WME.
