Doug Liman is set to direct the most recent draft of the script written by Jamie Linden. Charlie Kaufman also worked on the script. Allison Shearmur and Doug Davison have signed on as producers. Robert Zemeckis, who was originally attached to direct, will also serve as a producer.
The movie is based on Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go, the first book in Ness’s dystopian trilogy. Set in a world where humans can hear one another’s thoughts via images, words and sounds called “Noise,” the story centers on the only boy (Holland) in a town of men, who makes a surprising discovery that forces him to flee with his dog. With the townspeople in pursuit, he stumbles upon a strange and silent girl (Ridley). They set off on a thrilling journey in which the boy must unlearn everything he knows in order to figure out who he truly is.
Holland can be seen next in the adaptation of David Grann’s The Lost City of Z opposite Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson. He will also reprise his role as the titular web-slinging superhero next year in Spider-man: Homecoming.
