Even though Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have bowed out of Skull Island due to scheduling conflicts, Legendary continues to rack up the A-listers and up-and-comers for this Kong-sized blockbuster. We’ve previously reported that indie-darling Brie Larson and Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins have joined Tom Hiddleston in the credits, and now two more big names are circling the island: Tom Wilkinson and Samuel L. Jackson. An offer is out to Wilkinson for a lead role and it’s rumored that Jackson is in early talks to replace Simmons.
The film aims to take the audience deep into King Kong’s tropical home, where explorers encounter a plethora of dangerous creatures, including dinosaurs if the original film is any guide. Universal is setting the release date as March 10th, 2017, so shooting should start sometime towards the end of this year or early in 2016.
