True Crime podcast is getting the TV series adaptation treatment with a two-season straight-to-series order at Bravo, THR reports.

Additionally, Oxygen, which is also in the NBC Universal family of cable networks, is developing a documentary series based on the podcast and LA Times article.

The story, published in the LA Times in October 2017, follows John Meehan, aka “Dirty John,” and his relationship with Debra Newell and her family.

The first season of Bravo’s show will recount the original Dirty John story, while subsequent seasons, including Season 2, will be a new close-ended story, presumably in the same genre of mystery and suspense.

Dirty John the TV show will be written by Alexandra Cunningham, who will also serve as executive producer along with Mark Herzog, Chris Cowen, Chris Argentieri, Charles Roven and Richard Suckle.

The Oxygen docu-series, which will tell the stories of the people who were caught up in Meeham’s web over the years, is from Herzog & Co. and Los Angeles Times Studios with Herzog and Cowen also serving as EPs.

This all may seem overboard for one true crime story that has already been told, but it’s hard to resist the popularity of the podcast – it was downloaded ten million times in its first six weeks.
