The series revolves around Abel (Bizuneh), a man from a bombastic African family that doesn’t have a word in their native language for “privacy,” and his fiancée Jenny (Beth Behrs), from a Midwestern family, as they try to build a normal life together — though nobody can agree what that “normal” means. Bizuneh’s Abel is a good natured and educated Ethiopian refugee who can be a smart mouth when pushed. His time spent in a refugee camp as a child before coming to America left him with a few rough edges.
