TOP OF THE LAKE has tapped Game Of Thrones‘ actress Gwendoline Christie to join Elisabeth Moss for season two. The series is set to start filming this month. There are no details on the role Christie will be playing. Christie, who has appeared on HBO’s flagship series since 2012, most recently appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Captain Phasma. Joining her for Lake are returning cast members David Dencik, Alice Englert, and Ewen Leslie.
Oscar-winning director Jane Campion is also returning to direct and co-write the miniseries. Philippa Campbell and Libby Sharpe produce while Campion executive produces with See-Saw’s Emile Sherman, Iain Canning, and Jamie Laurenson. Lucy Richer executive produces for the BBC.
Peter Serafinowicz has won the title role in Amazon’s reboot of Fox’s 2001 comedy THE TICK. The series follows the antaennae-sporting superhero as he recovers from memory loss and ends up reteaming with his sidekick Arthur (Griffin Newman) to fight evil. The two are surrounded by a new host of characters that include Arthur’s sister Dot (Valorie Curry).
The show was a 1994 animated series before being adapted into a live-action comedy for Fox starring Patrick Warburton. The series was cancelled after nine episodes in 2001 but has since developed a cult following. Warburton is still involved in the new version as an executive producer.
Kevin James has added Lenny Venito and Gary Valentine to his untitled CBS multi-camera series. The show centers on Kevin (James), a newly retired police officer who looks forward to spending more quality time with his wife and three kids – only to discover he faces much tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets. Venito will play Kevin’s oldest buddy Duffy while Valentine is set as Kevin’s brother Kyle.
Wilfred star Elijah Wood is headed to BBC America’s DIRK GENTLY. The show is based on the cult Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency novels by Douglas Adams. The series was adapted by Max Landis – who has made headlines lately with the blockbuster sale of his spec Bright to Netflix. Dirk Gently is a comedic thriller that follows the bizarre adventures of eccentric ‘holistic’ detective Dirk Gently and his reluctant assistant Todd. Wood will play Todd.
WHEN THE STREETS LIGHTS GO ON has tapped Kelli Mayo and Ben Winchell for series regular roles in the Hulu drama pilot. The coming-of-age thriller is about a sleepy, suburban town that is rocked by the brutal murder of a high school girl and her teacher in the summer of 1983. Mayo is set as Berlice, a 15-year-old bohemian bookworm while Winchell will play Brad, the brooding, quarterback boyfriend of the prom queen.
Eric Sheffer Stevens and Rebecca Naomi Jones have joins Denis Leary’s SEX&DRUGS&ROCK&ROLL in recurring roles. The series centers on Jonny Rock (Lear), the lead singer of NYC’s legendary early-90s band The Heathens. Rock is trying to get both his band and his life back together. Stevens is set as Brook Lanley, a hip rock producer. Jones will play Davvy, a sexy downtown singer.
Parker Sawyers has won the male lead in NBC’s MIRANDA’S RIGHTS. The legal soap follows an idealistic group of lawyers – Young Law Group – who not only work together but live together at their start-up firm. Sawyer will play Tanner, a charming and confident attorney and one of the founders of YLG.
James Paxton and Gil Bellows have been tapped for lead roles alongside Julianne Nicholson and Tyler Young in USA’s EYEWITNESS. The project is an adaptation of a Norwegian crime thriller and explores the grisly crime from the point of view of the eyewitnesses. In it, two innocent teenage boys – one of the played by Tyler Young – secretly meet up in the forest where they witness a shooting and barely escape with their lives.
