“Flashdance” star checks in for “The Night Shift”
NBC’s THE NIGHT SHIFT has tapped Jennifer Beals for a major recurring role as Doctor Syd Jennings, a Major in the Army who has worked with the Culture Support Teams in conjunction with Ranger and Special Forces units. The character, nearing the end of a six-month tour in Afghanistan alongside Dr. Drew Alister (Brendan Fehr), will first appear in the medical drama’s season 3 premiere.
Best known for her iconic role in Flashdance, Beals’ extensive television credits include series regular roles on TNT’s Proof, Fox’s The Chicago Code, and Showtime’s The L Word. She is repped by APA and Red Management.
“Salem” to get it’s own (demon?) barber
The rocker behind SALEM’s theme song is set to guest star on the third season of WGN’s revisionist drama. Marilyn Manson will play Thomas Dinley, the town’s barber/surgeon to whom residents go for anything “from a shave and a haircut to being leeched, bled, sliced open or sewn up.”
Manson’s other acting credits include Sons of Anarchy, Californication and Once Upon a Time as the voice of The Shadow. He is repped by CAA.
Breeda Wool’s UnREAL character, Faith, is getting her own spinoff, due out later this year. In the 10-episode webseries, the devoutly Christian, formerly closeted lesbian lands a big label denim endorsement deal and moves to L.A. with her longtime love, Amy. There the couple is much more accepted than they were in Mississippi, where they grew up.
“The Mysteries of Deb”
Disney Channel star Debby Ryan has been cast as Lucy Diamond, the troublemaker half-sister to Debra Messing’s titular cop on NBC’s THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA. She appears in a two-parter, airing February 24 and March 2.
“Aquarius” casts its Sharon Tate
Amanda Brooks will recur as the model-actress on the second season of NBC’s AQUARIUS. The 1960s drama focuses on a cop that is tracking Charles Manson and the Manson Family before their infamous murder spree, which claimed the life of Tate while she was pregnant.
