Kenan Thompson will star in and executive produce a family comedy for NBC with SNL Creator Lorne Michaels. The untitled project would center on a man who moves in with his in-laws. Bryan Tucker will write the script and exec produce with Andrew Singer. Tucker is repped by WME.
Jessie Miller and Bennett Wolin have sold their comedy spec THE MESSED UPTONS to NBC. Stacy Traub will executive produce the project, which centers on a 33-year-old woman who believes she has hit rock bottom in her life, only to realize her entire family is doing just as badly as she is. Miller and Wolin are repped by UTA.
Carol Mendelsohn has sold an adaptation of Kate Braestrup’s HERE IF YOU NEED ME to CBS. Neil Tolkin will write the script about a female state trooper who takes over her husband’s life when he dies unexpectedly. Mendelsohn will exec produce with Jeffrey Kramer, Jody Hotchkiss and Julie Weitz. Mendelsohn is repped by WME and Tolkin is repped by Characters Talent Agency and WME.
ABC has purchased BIG CHILDREN from Scott Marder, who will write and exec produce. The project will star Rory Scovel and centers on a thirty-year-old man who must move home and babysit his parents who are recently retired and reverted to their childish ways. Marder is repped by CAA.
Fox has bought THE HAPPY TREE from Rob Weiss, Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson. The project centers on a young attorney who quits his job after a nervous breakdown and moves to Venice Beach where he finds himself as a leading voice of the “legalize marijuana” movement. Weiss will write the script with Jay Leggett and Blake Leibel. Weiss is repped by UTA and Leibel by Characters Talent Agency.
Larry Stuckey has sold a single-camera comedy to ABC. The untitled project centers on a man and his charismatic, athletic brother who has always out-shined him. When the brother opens a restaurant in town, it effects the man and his family adversely. Stuckey is repped by CAA.
