TV SALES
FOX has picked up new animated series NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE from writers/exec producers Jared Hess, Jerusha Hess and Mike Scully. Series will be based on the 2004 hit indie comedy of same name, and will see the original cast of Jon Heder, Efren Ramirez, Aaron Ruell and Tina Majorino return to voice their characters.
FOX has also picked up ALLEN GREGORY from writers/exec producers Andrew Mogel, Jarrad Paul and Jonah Hill. Series will center on the most celebrated seven-year-old kid in the world, who now must embark on his greatest challenge of all — attending an elementary school with normal kids. Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope also exec produce.
SHOWTIME has shown their hand, by agreeing to pick up the new series WHALES from writer/exec producers Jenji Kohan and Matthew Salsberg. The 1/2 hour series will follow a group of brilliant yet quirky 20-somethings, (some genius Harvard and MIT grads) who move to Las Vegas in pursuit of the $10 million dollar “World Series of Poker” prize.
TV CANCELLATIONS
NBC has officially cancelled the freshman series OUTLAW, after just last week announcing production would be halted to see how the numbers went over the next few episodes. Apparently, with the cancellation, the answer was not well.
TV DEALS
Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh, co-exec producers and writers for ABC’s MODERN FAMILY have signed 2-year/7-figure deals with the network to stay put for a couple more seasons. The pair will continue their work on the hit laugher.
TV GREENLIGHTS
TNT has ordered a pilot for new 1950s period noir drama HOLLYWOOD & VINE from writer Daniel Pyne. Series, produced by Warner Horizon, focuses on a private eye in post-WWII Los Angeles, who takes on cases that continually thrust him in-between the glamour and desire of Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and the underground and corrupt threat of organized crime and a dirty police force.
