STARZ has picked up HAREM, a six-hour miniseries exploring the rise and fall of the Ottoman Empire. Ann Peacock is nearing a deal to star in the project, which is an original idea from Gina Gershon. The series will revolve around Roxelana, a beautiful young slave girl whose ambitions knew no bounds and whose marriage to Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent kicked off what became known as the “Reign of Women.”
Laurence Fishburne is returning to the small screen, but this time he is slated to produce. His Cinema Gypsy Productions a two year first-look development deal with 20th Century Fox Television studios for cable projects. Tom Russo will oversee the development for the production studio and serve as producer on all his studio’s projects.
Lionsgate and SHOWTIME have come to an agreement to continue the network’s longest running comedy series WEEDS for an eighth season. The season will consist of 13 episodes and will begin production next year. The series first aired in 2005 from creator Jenji Kohan.
