CBS is going into production on the four-hour mini series THE DOVEKEEPERS. Based on Alice Hoffman’s novel of the same name and adapted by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, the series will follow four women during the siege of Masada in which Jewish soldiers battled the Romans for months. Burnett, repped by Greater Talent Network, most recently executive produced the 27th season of “Survivor”, a show for which he has been a part of since 2000 and is executive producing Christopher Spencer’s “Son of God.” Downey, repped by Abrams Artists Agency, most recently executive produced and played Mother Mary in the event mini series “The Bible” and will be doing the same for “Son of God.”
Troy Duffy has set up KINGDOM COME at Sony Television with producers Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen. The series will follow Captain Jean Lafitte, a 19th Century pirate who controlled New Orleans with the largest U.S. smuggling operation. Him and his men received full pardons though when they defended the town against invading British troops in the battle of 1812. Duffy is repped by Original Artists.
ABC Family is developing another series with “Switched At Birth” creator Lizzy Weiss, called INTO THIN AIR. The plot is being kept under wraps but Weiss will write and executive produce alongside Paul Stupin. Weiss is repped by UTA.
Spike TV is developing an adaptation of Carl Hiaasen’s book BASKET CASE. Written by Alex Taub, the story centers on a great investigative reporter who has trouble dealing with authority, change, women, success, and most of all, corruption. Craig Cegielski and SVP Stefanie Berk. Peter Gethers, Jeffrey Levine, Thom Beers, Craig Cegielski, Stefanie Berk, Rob Reiner and Liz Glotzer will executive produce.
TV ATTACHMENTS
Rob Reiner will direct and produce the pilot episode of BASKET CASE for Spike Tv. He is repped by CAA.
TV RENEWALS
Adult Swim has renewed THE ERIC ANDRE SHOW for a third season.
Crackle has renewed CHOSEN for a third season. The Ben Ketai and Ryan Lewis created series will begin production sometime in December, aiming for a 2014 premiere.
Showtime has renewed EPISODES for a fourth season.
TV CANCELLATIONS
Showtime has put an end to CALIFORNICATION. The upcoming seventh season of the Tom Kapinos created series will be its last.
TV ATTACHMENTS
Drew Goddard has joined Netflix’s DAREDEVIL series as executive producer and showrunner, penning and also helming the first episode. Most recently Goddard penned the script for “World War Z” alongside Damon Lindelof, but is best known for penning episodes for shows such as “Lost”, “Alias” and “Angel.” Goddard is repped by UTA.
TV DEALS
Even though “Low Winter Sun” has been cancelled, AMC has signed an overall deal with its showrunner Chris Mundy to develop new series.
TV GREENLIGHTS
NBC has given the greenlight to four-hour mini series ROSEMARY’S BABY. Based on Ira Levin’s 1967 novel, the mini series was adapted by Scott Abbott and James Wong and will be directed by Agnieszka Holland. The network plans to begin production some time in January, but if they want to meet that deadline they’ll have to get the led out and start casting ASAP. Joshua Maurer, Alix Witlin and David Stern will serve as executive producers.
NBC has greenlit a new untitled comedy project from Los Angeles based comedian Jerrod Carmichael. The series, which has Scott Ellis attached to direct, will focus on Carmichael’s life as he attempts to take on the world. Mike Pennie and Ravi Nandan will executive produce, while CAA repped Carmichael stars.
FX has ordered TYRANT, from writer Gideon Raff, to a ten episode series. Raff is repped by WME.
