Netflix has picked up NARCOS, an original series chronicling the life and death of Pablo Escobar, the ruthless drug cartel boss and terrorist who was also a congressman.
CBS TV Studios has optioned Aisha Tyler’s book “Self-Inflicted Wounds.” The book is full of comic essays about Tyler’s life when she has found herself in the middle of humiliating situations and the lessons she’s learned from them. There’s no word yet on which network might pick up the show.
DirecTV has picked up its first scripted comedy series THINGS YOU SHOULDN’T SAY AFTER MIDNIGHT for 10 episodes. The series focuses on the romantic relationship of couples with scenarios based on the idea that nothing good happens in the wee hours of the morning. “Ice Age’s” Peter Ackerman wrote the show and will executive produce.
SundanceTV and BBC Worldwide are collaborating on ONE CHILD, a four hour mini series following a Chinese born woman adopted by British parents who struggles with deciding where her loyalty should lie.
TNT picks up BREED, a thriller involving monster mythology, two newcomers to the town and a fallen FBI profiler. Scott Winant is on board to direct.
Comedy Central has ordered a pilot from “Happy Endings” writers David Caspe, Matthew Libman, and Daniel Libman and will star Gil Ozeri. The comedy centers on a former football star who loses everything and has to go back to his hometown and get a job on the local police force.
OWN gains its first ever mini-series TULSA. The two night even will center on the largest race riot in history where over 300 people are said to have been murdered in Oklahoma City. The project will star “The Help’s” Octavia Spencer and singer Toni Braxton.

TV RENEWALS
Syfy is renewing HELIX for a second season. The thriller follows a team of scientists battling an outbreak that has the potential to spread worldwide. HELIX is executive produced by Moore Steven Maeda, who also serves as showrunner.
Showtime has renewed NURSE JACKIE for a seventh season. The dark comedy stars Edie Falco and follows a brilliant but flawed nurse with a drug addiction.
Amazon is bringing ALPHA HOUSE back for a second season. The comedy follows two U.S. Senators-turned-roommates and stars John Goodman, Mark Consuelos, and Clark Johnson.
BBC gives the go-ahead for a second season of MUSKETEERS. The series is a contemporary take on the classic Musketeers characters.
TV CANCELLATIONS
ABC has officially cancelled ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND. Next week’s season finale will become the series finale. The show was a spin-off of ABC’s “Once Upon A Time.”
After a single series, Fox’s RAKE is being cancelled. The short-lived series starred Greg Kinnear and is being cancelled due to poor ratings. The last two episodes will air Saturday.

Chris Brancato has been set up to run Netflix‘s new series NARCOS. Brancato has also worked on NBC’s “Hannibal.”
Jose Padilha will direct Netflix‘s crime series NARCOS. Wagner Moura is set to star in the project as Pablo Escobar.
John David Coles is joining Netflix‘s HOUSE OF CARDS as executive producer for season three of the hit series. He is repped by UTA and Rain Management Group.
TV GREENLIGHTS
Amazon has given series orders to four of its pilots, MOZART IN THE JUNGLE, TRANSPARENT, THE AFTER and BOSCH. MOZART follows the behind the scene drama of New York’s classical music scene and stars Bernadette Peters. TRANSPARENT, starring Jeffrey Tambor and Jay Duplass, is a dramedy about a family man who tries to reconnect with his children after deciding to become a transsexual. THE AFTER is a sci-fi series about a group of strangers fighting to survive a post-apocalyptic world. BOSCH follows an LAPD homicide detective working to solve a child killing while standing trail for his own murder of a serial killer.
HBO has greenlit a half hour comedy series, WOMEN IN SPACE. Written by Al Gore’s daughter, Kristin Gore, the series follows a group of women exploring space on a mission to colonize another planet.
NBC has ordered a Charles Manson drama series, AQUARIUS. The show will star David Duchovny in a gritty 60s cop drama about a cop who goes undercover to track down the Manson family before their murder spree.
ABC’s THE ASTRONAUT WIVES CLUB has been put on hold and will be pushed back to a mid-season premiere date.
DEALS
Clyde Phillips signed a two year overall deal with Lionsgate TV. Phillips has been the executive producer and showrunner for “Nurse Jackie” since its fourth season. He is repped by CAA.
Dave Caplan has made an overall deal with Lionsgate TV to develop and produce programming through Trooper Entertainment.
David Milch has extended his overall deal with HBO for two more years, making his run with HBO an impressive 14 years. He has brought “Deadwood,” “John From Cincinnati,” and “Luck” to the cable network. Milch is repped by ICM.
Michael Dietz has partnered with High Noon for a first look deal. Dietz’s past credits include “Stars Earn Stripes” and “Minute to Win It.”
