TV SALES
Lionsgate has optioned the rights to Sylvia Day’s CROSSFIRE book series. The books center on a billionaire businessman and a young businesswoman starting out in the advertising world as they try to overcome their painful pasts.
ABC has picked up FREEDOM from Karl Gajdusek and Shawn Ryan. Gajdusek will write the script, which centers on a group of Ivy League students who start an anti-government resistance movement called “Freedom”. Marney Hochman will exec produce with the duo. Gajdusek is repped by Verve.
Donald Glover will write, star in and exec produce a series titled ATLANTA for FX. The project is a music-based comedy that takes place in the titular city. Glover is repped by CAA.
Larry Wilmore and Issa Rae will write an untitled comedy for HBO with Rae also starring. The project centers on the life of an African-American woman in modern times. Both Wilmore and Rae are repped by UTA.
Fox has picked up a project written by Ken Marino and Erica Oyama that will center on a married couple trying live their American Dream. Marino and Oyama will exec produce with Will Gluck and Richie Schwartz. Both Marino and Oyama are repped by Paradigm.
Fox has bought STUCK from Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. The project centers on a woman working at a bank who gets her daughter a job there. Within the first day, the daughter becomes her mother’s boss. Jones and McCormack will produce.
Shonda Rhimes has sold an untitled cop drama to ABC. The project follows a pair of detectives solving cases in Miami. Rhimes will exec produce with Dana Calvo.
A script based on “The Exorcist”, written by Jeremy Slater is being shopped around to networks by Morgan Creek. Roy Lee will executive produce the project. Slater is repped by UTA.
Fox has bought a comedy pitch from Ian Edelman and Ruben Fleischer. The project is titled F.O.M.O. (fear of missing out) and it centers on people with, as you might guess, a fear of missing out. Edelman and Fleischer will exec produce.
Fox is developing WORLD WAR III, a project from David Hayter and Leslie Greif which Hayter will write and run. The series centers on a global war that is on the brink of turning apocalyptic. Hayter is repped by UTA.
NBC is putting a script from Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont into development. The untitled project is inspired by relationship therapist Laura Berman and centers on a relationship therapist who tries to navigate her own relations with her ex-husband and his new girlfriend. Kaplan and Elfont will exec produce with Eva Longoria, Ben Spector, Francesca Silvestri and Kevin Chinoy. Kaplan and Elfont are both repped by CAA.
CBS is developing DOROTHY, a medical soap drama based on “The Wizard of Oz”. Emily Fox (ICM) will write the script and exec produce with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.
An untitled CIA drama from Alexi Hawley (CAA) is being shopped around with an eye on Katherine Heigl to star as an advisor to the president as the CIA deals with hotspots around the world.
Anonymous Content has optioned JUST ONE NIGHT, the e-book series by Kyra Davis. The trio of books center on a businesswoman who is convinced by her best friend to sleep with a stranger in Las Vegas on the eve of her wedding.
TV RENEWALS
AWKWARD has been renewed for a fourth season by MTV. The show has been a hit for MTV and is its leading scripted series.
TV CANCELLATIONS
Starz has cancelled MAGIC CITY. The series will end with the upcoming season two finale.
TV DEALS
Kevin Wade has signed an overall deal with CBS. Under the contract, he will remain as showrunner of the network’s series “Blue Bloods.” He is repped by ICM.
Mark Canton has signed a first-look deal with Starz, under which he will develop and produce projects for the network. Canton has served as a producer on films including “300”, “A Perfect Getaway” and “Immortals”.
After leaving MTV’s “Awkward”, Lauren Iungerich has signed a blind script deal with Warner Bros. TV, under which she will write a comedy for the studio. Whe is repped by WME.
TV ATTACHMENTS
Chris Alberghini and Mike Chessler have come aboard AWKWARD as the new showrunners. The duo replaces Lauren Iungerich who left after the third season. Both men are repped by Paradigm.
Barry Schindel will be serving as an executive producer and showrunner on INTELLIGENCE. He has previously worked on “Law & Order” and “Castle” and is repped by CAA.
TV GREENLIGHTS
Marti Noxon’s GIRLFRIEND’S GUIDE TO DIVORCE has been given the greenlight from Bravo. Noxon wrote the project, based on the “Girlfriends’ Guide…” book series written by Vicki Iovine, which centers on a self-help author who keeps the fact that she’s seperated from her husband a closely guarded secret. Noxon is repped by WME.
