ABC has put the UNTITLED STRACZYNSKI DRAMA from Overbrook Entertainment into development. The series will be a pandemic thriller which combines procedural and serialized elements. J. Michael Straczynski who will write the and exec produce the series, is repped by CAA.
On the comedy side, ABC has also bought the single-camera BIG CITY from Josh Siegal and Dylan Morgan, best known for their work on “30 Rock”. The show centers on a suburban family who are trapped in the big city. The sale is the first one for the deal the pair signed with Sony TV in May. The writing team is repped by Rothman Brecher Kim.
Fox has bought the UNTITLED MO MANDEL COMEDY from Sony Pictures TV and Happy Madison. The series is loosely based on the comedian’s rivalry with his brother. Mandel will write and executive produce with Doug Robinson.
Fox has also bought the drama PARA TIME from Matthew Graham, which will follow a group that monitors and polices parallel worlds. Steve Tzirlin will produce the series for Fox. Graham is repped by Valerie Hoskins Associates.
Marti Noxon has sold GUIDE TO DIVORCE, a semi-autobiographical half-hour comedy, to Showtime. The show will follow four women in their 40’s as they deal with all the emotions that follow divorce after a long-term relationship. Noxon will write the series as well as exec produce with Vicki Iovine, Dawn Olmstead and Meryl Poster. Noxon is repped by WME.
The CW has given a script order for the procedural drama WRECKING BALL from “Grimm” writer Richard Hatem. The series would follow a John F. Kennedy Jr.-type character who partners with a young campaign strategist to solve cases. Hatem will write and serve as executive producer with Ross Fineman. Hatem is repped by WME and APA.
Wilmer Valderrama has signed a one-year development and talent holding deal with 20th Century Fox TV, which will see the studio develop a project for Valderrama to produce and star in. The deal extends Valderrama’s relationship with Fox, where Valderrama starred in the drama series “Awake”. Valderrama is repped by UTA and The Collective.
Mark Pellington has signed a one year development deal with ABC Studios. As a part of the deal, Pellington will develop projects for the studio and executive produce any of his projects that are picked up. Pellington recently directed the pilot for “Red Widow” and will direct the pilot for “The Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives”. He is repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) will direct a four-part British miniseries for Channel 4 entitled SOUTHCLIFFE. Written by Tony Grisoni (“Red Riding” trilogy), the series follows a journalist as he observes the victims of a tragic shooting try to keep going with their ordinary lives. Warp Films will produce the series.
