Tye Sheridan has landed the coveted lead role in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of READY PLAYER ONE. Warner Bros., Village Roadshow Pictures, and DreamWorks are collaborating to make the film based on the bestselling novel by Ernest Cline.
The story follows Wade Watts, a teenage who escapes the slums by logging into the digital confines OASIS, a globally networked virtual utopia where users lead idyllic alternate lives. When the creator of a popular video game system dies, a virtual contest is created to compete for his billions — and the contestants are willing to do anything to win. Sheridan will star opposite Olivia Cooke who plays “Art3mis” and Ben Mendelsohn, who will step into the role of the book’s antagonist Nolan Sorrento.
Ever since his debut role in Terrence Malick’s The Tree Of Life in 2011, Sheridan’s career has been on a steady rise, landing roles in high-profile films such as Mud with Matthew McConaughey, Joe, and The Stanford Prison Experiment. Last year, he starred in the culty Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. He will join the ranks of comic book blockbusters this summer in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse. He can also be seen in the thriller Detour and The Yellow Birds with Jennifer Aniston later this year.
He is repped by WME.
