Universal Pictures has signed a three year production deal with Alex Kurtzman under his Secret Hideout banner. Under the pact, Kurtzman will develop filmmaker-driven projects with franchise potential. The deal marks the second time Kurtzman has teamed with Universal, the first being when he inked a two year pact with Roberto Orci under their K/O Paper products shingle. Focus Features’ Jeb Brody and K/O’s Bobby Cohen are also on board as producers.
Kurtzman has previously worked with Universal on sci-fi thriller “Cowboys & Aliens” and will head up their reboots of classic monster franchises alonside Chris Morgan. The first project on the docket is a reboot of “The Mummy,” which Kurtzman will direct from a script penned by Billy Ray and Jon Spaihts.
