Universal is setting up their slate for next year to be another winner. THE REVENGER, a script by former The State and Reno 911 writers/performers Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, has kept its plot under wraps, but considering the writers and the title, it’s safe to say that this will be a comedy about a vigilante. The film has Liam Neeson attached to star and Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleisher attached to direct. Fleisher will also produce with David Bernad for their company, The District, alongside Scott Stuber and Dylan Clarke for Universal’s Bluegrass Films shingle.
Lennon and Garant have a pretty rock solid comedy pedigree. They started in the 90s writing and performing with the sketch troupe, The State, and then moved on to other hit TV projects like Viva Variety and Reno 911. The pair’s film resume is equally impressive with scripts like Hellbaby, Night at the Museum and the upcoming Naked Gun reboot.
Liam Neeson has been on a action film tear over the last decade, which has allowed for comedic cameos in a number of films and shows. The path seems to be laid out for him to play a comic action hero.
Lennon and Garant are repped by CAA and Principato-Young Entertainment.
Neeson is repped by CAA as well.
