Universal Pictures has optioned former White House stenographer Beck Dorey-Stein’s book proposal FROM THE CORNER OF THE OVAL and partnered with Anonymous Content and Aevitas Creative Management to produce the feature adaptation, the Tracking Board has confirmed.
Described as a workplace comedy, From the Corner of the Oval follows a young woman living in Washington D.C. who is at an all-time career low when, through a twist of fate, she goes from serving cocktails to lobbyists to being hired as a stenographer in Obama’s White House. The ultimate fish out of water, she stumbles into an elite world and finds herself navigating a series of misadventures in life and love.
The book was preempted by Spiegel & Grau, a division of Random House Publishing Group, and is expected to be published in 2018.
Oscar winner Michael Sugar (Spotlight) will produce for Anonymous along with Nicole Clemens and Ashley Zalta. Universal executives Erik Baiers and Elizabeth Haggard will oversee the project for the studio.
Dorey-Stein is represented by Becky Sweren at Aevitas Creative Management, and the Hollywood Reporter broke the news of her book option.
