Lifetime’s flagship series UNREAL has promoted executive producer Stacy Rukeyser to showrunner for season three. She takes over for Carol Barbee who ran the show for season two. Production is set for February in Vancouver with new episodes bowing in the summer of 2017.
Executive VP for A+E Studios Barry Jossen said, “Stacy has been an invaluable member of the UnReal creative team since its inception. I am thrilled to announce Stacy will be the showrunner as we head into the third season.
The show was co-created by Marti Noxon and Gertrude Shapiro. Noxon, whose credits also include the series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Code Black, and the upcoming Sharp Objects, left UnReal early in its second season. The change in the series was clear as many viewers responded negatively to season two’s focus on controversial topics while losing sight of the character nuance shown in season one’s contestants.
“It takes complicated women to make a show about complicated women,” said Rukeyser. “I include myself in that description. Complicated women are having a moment right now because one is even running for president, as uncomfortable as that seems to make a lot of Americans. But it’s exciting to be part of a cultural moment in that way.”
Rukeyser’s previous credits include Greek, the series Crash, One Tree Hill, and Twisted.
She is repped by WME.
