NBC has purchased a script for FIRST RESPONDERS, a procedural drama from executive producer Vin Diesel. Diesel will produce the hourlong series through his One Race Television banner which has a first-look deal with Universal Television. Jesse Stern, a writer on the Call of Duty and Titanfall video game franchises and longtime writer-producer on NCIS, is set to write the pilot. San Andreas helmer Brad Peyton is attached to direct.
The series is described as “a dynamic, high-action procedural about young veterans struggling to reintegrate into society, while heroically saving civilian lives along the way. The elite team is the best Search and Rescue operation in the country, and is run by husband-and-wife duo, Doc and Lil Pierce, whose Southern California coastal base provides a sense of community and surrogate family for their ex-military staff. While Doc and Lil can save anyone else’s life in the darkest times, they have been unable to find their own son and will stop at nothing to solve the mystery of his disappearance and bring him back home.”
Samantha Vincent will also executive produce for One Race with Peyton and his ASAP Entertainment. Shana Waterman is overseeing for One Race.
Diesel has a hefty development slate, including at least three more Fast and Furious films – the recently wrapped Fast 8 plus two more sequels and a spinoff focusing on Diesel’s character. Diesel will next be seen in Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk before reprising his roles in xXx: Return of Xander Cage and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
