Viola Davis has signed on to play historical figure Harriet Tubman in the upcoming HBO biopic based on the biography Bound For The Promised Land by Kate Clifford Larson. Born into slavery, Tubman was able to escape and help many others find freedom, with her intricate system of secret routes and safe houses, known as the Underground Railroad.
Entourage writer Cliff Dorfman optioned the book to be produced by HBO. Steven Spielberg is set to produce under his Amblin TV banner.
Known for her Oscar nominated performance in The Help, Davis stars on the hit ABC series How To Get Away With Murder.
