IFC Films has released the first trailer for WAKEFIELD, a darkly comic drama starring Bryan Cranston as a man who, feeling suffocated by his suburban life, decides to retreat from reality and hide from his family, watching them from the attic of his garage.
Given it’s rather weird premise, it’s no surprise that Wakefield earned mixed reviews out of Telluride last fall, but at least it’s something we haven’t really seen before, and if anyone can knock this kind of loner role out of the park, it’s Emmy winner Cranston.
Jennifer Garner co-stars as Cranston’s distraught wife, and the cast also includes Jason O’Mara and Beverly D’Angelo.
Wakefield hails from writer-director Robin Swicord, the veteran screenwriter who adapted E.L. Doctorow’s short story, and IFC Films will release the indie on May 19. Watch the trailer and let us know if Cranston’s voice-over narration reminds you of Kevin Spacey’s in American Beauty.
