The remake of the 1987 Garry Marshall film OVERBOARD has a new set of writers and directors in Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg, the Tracking Board has exclusively learned. The film is currently set up at MGM with 3pas Studios attached to produce.
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell co-starred in the original film, which centered on a spoiled woman (Hawn) who falls overboard on a yacht. When she wakes up in the hospital with amnesia, a man (Russell) convinces her she’s his wife and mother to his children. Hawn’s role in the remake will now be played by Eugenio Derbez, as the Tracking Board exclusively revealed last year, who is also set to produce with 3pas. Will Smith and Jennifer Lopez had previously been attached to the remake when it was at Columbia.
The remake has been in the works for some time but the attachment of directors is a good sign the project is still a priority at MGM. Cassidy Lange and Tabitha Shick are set to oversee.
Fisher first started as a small-time writer and producer in the world of television, before his feature script Wedding Crashers became a hit in 2005. Eight years later he wrote We’re the Millers and currently has his spec Contractors set up at Relativity.
Television was also the start for Greenberg, who worked on sitcoms such as Frasier, How I Met Your Mother, and Happy Endings. Currently, he’s a director and executive producer for TV Land’s Impastor. His spec Meet Dave was made into a feature film starring Eddie Murphy in 2008.
