Justin Kirk is now set to star opposite Jennifer Garner in THE TRIBES OF PALOS VERDES, taking over the role initially set for Stephen Moyer, who exited the pic earlier this month due to scheduling issues. Alicia Silverstone has also joined the cast of the indie coming-of-age drama based on Joy Nicholson’s debut YA novel. Emmett Malloy and Brendan Malloy are directing from Karen Croner’s script. The Firm’s Jeff Kwatinetz and Kevin McKeon executive producing. Robbie Brenner of The Firm and scribe Croner are producing.
Set in the titular affluent Los Angeles suburb, The Tribes Of Palos Verdes centers on two teenagers who move to the beach community with their parents as their mother (Garner) teeters on the brink of a nervous breakdown and their father (Kirk) becomes a surgeon to the stars. Maika Monroe plays their daughter, Medina, who turns to surfing as an escape, and Cody Fern plays their son Jim. Elisabeth Rohm, Goran Visnjic, Milo Gibson, Noah Silver, Joely Fisher, Stevie Lynn Jones, and Tom Cocrel are also on board.
In addition to eight seasons on Showtime’s critically acclaimed comedy Weeds, Kirk has recently recurred on Modern Family, Manhattan, You’re The Worst, and Tyrant. Clueless star Silverstone can next be seen in King Cobra opposite James Franco and in Catfight alongside Sandra Oh and Anne Heche.
