WEEKEND BOX OFFICE (03.31.14) – “Noah” Floods The Competition

Although “Noah” may have swept away all of the competition in its opening bout, the real story this weekend lays once again with “Frozen.” The Oscar winning pic can now proclaim to be the highest grossing animated film of all time (worldwide) as the overseas market has pushed the gross over a billion dollars, putting it in the #10 spot for highest worldwide gross. An impressive feat, as it pushed out “Toy Story 3,” who previously held the top animated title, and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” who once sat in the #10 spot for worldwide gross.

But back to the top five. As mentioned before, “Noah” had a good first weekend with $44 million, and has racked up more than that overseas already, easily taking the weekend’s #1 spot. “Divergent” was the first runner up with $26.5 million giving the film an impressive 2 week haul of $95+ million. “Muppets Most Wanted” slid a spot, taking in $11.3 million while “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” and ” God’s Not Dead” were once again neck and neck coming in just half a million apart with “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” on top in 4th with $9.5 million. Expect a new #1 next week with the release of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” which I’m betting will take the weekend fairly easily.

#1 NOAH Weekend = $44 Million Total = $44 Million
#2 DIVERGENT Weekend = $26.5 Million Total = $95.2 Million
#3 MUPPETS MOST WANTED Weekend = $11.3 Million Total = $33.2 Million
#4 MR. PEABODY & SHERMAN Weekend = $9.5 Million Total = $94.9 Million
#5 GOD’S NOT DEAD Weekend = $9 Million Total = $22 Million
