WEEKEND BOX OFFICE (08.25.14) – Guardians Make a Comeback

Once again “Guardians of the Galaxy” comes out on top last weekend, earning $17.6 million in its fourth weekend in theaters, which is pretty impressive. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” dropped to second place for its third week, narrowly beating YA drama “If I Stay,” which brought in just under $16.4 million in its first weekend out of the gate. Fox comedy “Let’s Be Cops” dropped a spot last weekend to fourth place, while “When the Game Stands Tall” rounded out the top 5 with $11 million.

So what’s on the agenda for this weekend? Universal’s “As Above, So Below” and Relativity’s “The November Man” are both on the docket, but I’m willing to bet that “Guardians” and “Turtles” will again vie for the top spot with “November Man” coming in either third or fourth, depending on how “If I Stay” continues to fare.

#1 GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Weekend = $17.6 Million Total = $251.9 Million
#2 TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Weekend = $16.8 Million Total = $145.6 Million
#3 IF I STAY Weekend = $16.35 Million Total = $16.35 Million
#4 LET’S BE COPS Weekend = $11 Million Total = $45.2 Million
#5 WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL Weekend = $9 Million Total = $9 Million
