WEEKEND BOX OFFICE (6.30.14) — “Transformers” Will Not Go Extinct Any Time Soon

0

In what may be the least surprising opener of the summer, “Transformers: Age Of Extinction” debuted with $100 million over the weekend to take a dominating first place spot. The trio of sequels “22 Jump Street,” “How To Train Your Dragon 2,” and “Think Like A Man Too” took spots 2, 3, and 4 with $15.4, $13.1, and $10.4 million respectively. The most interesting part of that grouping is that “Think Like A Man Too” took the jump from 1st to 4th with a 65% drop while “22” and “Dragon” stayed steady in their positions. Finally, “Maleficent” closed out the top 5 with another $8.2 million in the bank.

Next week we get “Tammy,” “Earth To Echo,” and “Deliver Us From Evil.” I am betting that that “Transformers” will keep the top spot and “Tammy” will come in second. “Think Like A Man Too” and “Maleficent” won’t make the top five but whether they are kicked out by “Echo” or “Deliver” is most likely dependent on the reviews, but my gut says “Deliver” will make it. We’ll find out next week!

#1 Weekend = $100 Million Total = $100 Million
#2 Weekend = $15.4 Million Total = $139.8 Million
#3 Weekend = $13.1 Million Total = $121.8 Million
