Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials premieres this weekend, and as a nice kickoff for the event Wes Ball has signed on again to direct the next film in the series, MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE. Noting that he is in it to build the world of the franchise completely, Ball has stated, “Ultimately our goal is to create an awesome three-movie trilogy. Not many people have done that and now I have the opportunity to do that. I am directing the third film and we’ve already been busy preparing and working on the final conclusion of this saga.”
The expected release date for The Death Cure will be February 17th, 2017, and in a refreshing attempt to make a true trilogy, the final book is not being split into two parts like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games series have done in the past. It seems that was also something that made Ball interested in helming the entire series, as he has set up certain elements in Scorch Trials that will only pay off in The Death Cure.
