Geraldine Chaplin joins the cast of Focus Features’ A MONSTER CALLS. Based on the book written by screenwriter Patrick Ness, the fantasy drama follows a young boy who loses himself in an imaginative world he creates full of monsters and fairies to deal with bullies at school and his mother’s illness. Chaplin joins previously cast stars Felicity Jones, Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver, and Toby Kebbell. Juan Antonio Bayona is directing.
Chaplin, daughter of Charlie Chaplin and mother of “Game of Thrones” alum Oona Chaplin, has had a long and successful film career, having appeared in “Doctor Zhivago,” “The Three Musketeers,” and Richard Attenborough’s “Chaplin,” a biopic based on her father’s life. This project marks a re-teaming of Bayona and Chaplin, who have worked together on 2007’s horror flick “The Orphanage” and 2012’s drama “The Impossible.” Both Chaplin and her daughter Oona have been cast in Andreu Castro’s upcoming thriller “Remember It.”
