Jeff Robinov’s Studio 8 is set to produce a film based on the life of Rick Wershe Jr, currently under the working title of WHITE BOY RICK.
Wershe led an interesting life. As a teenager growing up in the 80s, he worked undercover for the police to bring down drug dealers, but was arrested and sentenced to life in prison for drug smuggling.
The original script that Studio 8 had was written by Logan and Noah Miller, but Wershe himself was brought in as a consultant on a script that Andy Weiss wrote for Scott Franklin and Darren Aronofsky. Talks are currently underway to bring the Weiss script to Studio 8. The compelling real-life drama will be directed by Yann Demange, and will be produced by John Lesher, Rick Yorn and Julie York, alongside Aronsofsky and Franklin.
