Universal Studios is putting together an all-star team for an original musical based on EVERYTHING’S COMING UP PROFITS: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals. The film will star Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig with Amblin Partners producing and Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman set to write the score.
The book shows how corporate America utilized Broadway talent in industrial shows from the 1950s to the 1980s to educate and motivate sales forces to sell cars, appliances, tractors, soda, and a thousand other products. Some of these shows were recorded and distributed, providing behind-the-scenes stories and a new perspective on American history, culture, and business.
The book, written by Steve Young and Mike Murphy, was published in 2013 by Blast Books.
Marc Platt, who has previously worked on the musicals Grease Live! and La La Land will produce through his shingle alongside Adam Siegel. Steven Levenson has come aboard to write the script. Amblin bought the pitch and set the project at Universal where they have a deal.
The project reunites SNL alums Ferrell and Wiig, who have previously worked together on Zoolander 2 and The Spoils of Babylon.
All deals are currently being negotiated.
