Disney continues to ramp up their live-action projects as Tim Burton’s DUMBO is eyeing Will Smith for a starring role. The film is an adaptation of the 1941 animated film that follows a circus elephant who is ridiculed because of his giant ears and learns to fly with the help of his only friend, a mouse.
Dumbo, penned by Ehren Kruger, joins an ever-growing list of live-action adaptations of classic Disney animated films that includes Beauty and the Beast, 101 Dalmatians, and previous hits Cinderella, Maleficent, and The Jungle Book. The project is also a reunion of Burton and Disney as the director helmed Alice in Wonderland and its sequel.
Smith can currently be seen on screen in Collateral Beauty opposite Kate Winslet, Edward Norton, and Michael Pena and also starred in last summer’s supervillain blockbuster Suicide Squad. He is currently in production on the Netflix film Bright from Max Landis and David Ayer.
He is repped by CAA.
