Will Smith has replaced Hugh Jackman for the lead role in COLLATERAL BEAUTY. Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment will now join Anonymous Content, PalmStar Media and Likely Story in producing the drama, written by Allan Loeb and to be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.
Smith will play a New York advertising executive who experiences a deep personal tragedy. After his colleagues devise a plan to break him out of his depression, the plan actually works–just not in the way that any of them had imagined.
Smith fills the massive casting hole left by Jackman, who exited earlier this month due to scheduling conflicts related to his Wolverine duties. PalmMedia, who is fully financing the Beauty, was originally eyeing Johnny Depp as Jackman’s replacement, while Jason Segal was also in talks. But it looks like Smith–who is currently wrapping up filming on David Ayer’s Suicide Squad–has come to the rescue instead.
