Kelly Fremon’s coming-of-age comedy is building its cast. Formerly called Besties as a spec, the film made the 2011 Hit List and was picked up by producer James L. Brooks’ Gracie Films and STX Entertainment. Fremon will direct her script. Now, producers have their adult leads in Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgwick.
The film follows two best friends, Nadine (played by Pitch Perfect 2’s Hailee Steinfeld) and Krista, who try to navigate high school life together. Things get complicated when Nadine discovers that Krista and Nadine’s older brother have been dating behind her back. The fighting begins as two girls realize that great friends can make terrible enemies.
Harrelson, who will be seen next in the final Hunger Games film, Mockingjay: Part 2, will be playing a teacher at Krista’s and Nadine’s high school. He is repped by CAA.
Sedgwick was just seen in the sleeper hit, Cop Car, and is currently in talks to play Nadine’s mother. She is repped by CAA and Impression Entertainment.
