With The Hunger Games finally wrapped, Woody Harrelson is moving on to a different kind of war movie. The Academy Award-nominated actor is in talks to star in Rob Reiner’s long gestating Iraq War drama SHOCK AND AWE.
The project has been in development for several years under Reiner’s Castle Rock shingle. The film would mark another collaboration between Reiner and Harrelson as they recently worked together on the upcoming Lyndon B. Johnson biopic LBJ written by Joey Hartstone, who also penned the script for Shock and Awe.
The story follows journalists investigating the assertions by the Bush Administration about Saddam Hussein’s alleged weapons of mass destruction as a pretext for invading Iraq in 2003. Production is set to start later this year.
Harrelson was recently seen in the crime drama Triple 9 and the “magical” sequel Now You See Me 2. He can be seen next in War for the Planet of the Apes and the adaptation of The Glass Castle with Brie Larson and Naomi Watts.
He is repped by CAA.
