We’re not monkeying around, Woody Harrelson has been tapped to take on one of the leading human roles in Fox’s WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES. Matt Reeves, who helmed 2014’s sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, is back this time around, directing from a script penned by Dawn scribe Mark Bomback. Peter Chernin and Chernin Entertainment is once again producing, along with Dylan Clark.
Andy Serkis is back playing franchise star Caesar, the evolved ape who becomes king and leader of the apes in a desolated human world. It’s unknown who else, if anyone, from the prior films is returning. Plot details with this one are kept hush, though the last film saw the apes and humans heading for a final conflict.
Harrelson’s character is also kept mum, though sources say that he’ll be playing a villain known as The Colonel. Gabriel Chavarria also stars, albeit in a much smaller role.
The True Detective star is currently in production on Rob Reiner’s LBJ, where he’ll be playing the titular president. He’ll next appear in the final Hunger Games installment, which drops this November.
Harrelson is repped by CAA.
