Disney’s favorite not-so-bad guy is returning to the big screen. The team at Studios took to Facebook Live to make the big announcement that an UNTITLED WRECK-IT RALPH SEQUEL is in development at the Mouse House.

Oscar-nominated actor John C. Reilly will return as the titular video game character and Sarah Silverman is set to reprise her role as the sugary “glitch” Vanellope von Schweetz. Rich Moore is also set to return to write and direct the sequel alongside Phil Johnston while Clark Spencer will produce. The sequel is slated for a March 9, 2018 release date.

A sequel has been in development since the release of the first film and it looks like the characters are going from the arcade to the Internet. “From the moment we started working on the first ‘Wreck-It Ralph,’ we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters,” said Moore in a statement. “This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back and we are ecstatic to be working with them—and the actors who voice them—once again.”

Reilly, who won the hearts of audiences as the misunderstood bad-guy-turned-good is ready to wreck it again. “Ralph is a character very near and dear to my heart,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to playing the big lug again. Making the first Wreck-It Ralph was one of the most special experiences I’ve ever had and I’m really looking forward to bringing him back to life. So many kids I’ve met all over the world are excited to see him again, too. They tell me all the time!”

When it was released in 2012, Wreck-It Ralph was the highest opening weekend ever for a Studios film at the time and earned it an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for Best Animated Feature. That said, it’s no surprise that a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph is in the works. It’s just surprising that it took this long for Disney to put it on the fast track. The sequel replaces Gigantic, Disney’s take on Jack and the Beanstalk, which originally had a release date of March 9, 2018. It has now been pushed to November 21, 2018.

This announcement comes not too long after the colossal critical and global box office success of Zootopia, which was directed by Moore and Byron Howard. All the acclaim likely encouraged Disney to put the Wreck-It Ralph sequel at the top the list with Moore at the helm alongside the aforementioned Johnston and Spencer, who also worked on Zootopia
