has released the first trailer for writer-director ’s buddy comedy , which stars (Black Mirror) and (Girls).

Karpovsky plays Paul, a newly-single standup comic who is struggling with his routing when he runs into his childhood friend Jason, an acclaimed folk-rock musician who’s about to tour the east coast. To help Paul gets his mojo back, Jason invites him to open for him on tour, and they set off together on the road, where they meet a new folk act (Meredith Hagner) along the way. But when Jason reveals an ulterior motive behind the tour, rifts are exposed in their otherwise affable camaraderie.

Produced by Grace and (L.A. Times), the indie movie co-stars Michael Ian Black, Melanie Lynskey, Hannah Simone, Heather Morris and David Cross.

I really enjoy Karpovsky’s work on Girls, where he plays nebbish coffee shop owner Ray, and it looks like he has good chemistry with Everybody Wants Some!! scene-stealer Russell, as the two play off each other quite nicely in this trailer.

will release Folk Hero & Funny Guy in New York and on May 12, the same day the film hits VOD and other digital platforms.
