The upcoming adaptation of SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA, based on the book of the same name by Becky Albertalli, is close to adding its newest cast member in Alexandra Shipp. The actor, who appeared as Storm in X-Men: Apocalypse, is in talks with Fox 2000 for a lead role in the film.
Centered on Simon Spier, the story is a coming-of-age story not as prevalent in today’s media landscape. Simon is a 16-year-old, not-so-openly gay student and when an email falls into the wrong hands, he has to make the decision to step out of his comfort zone before he’s forced out, all while not compromising himself or the cute guy he’s about to meet.
Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker are adapting the book, with Greg Berlanti directing. Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner of Temple Hill and Pouya Shahbazian of New Leaf are producing.
Prior to X-Men, Shipp had two film titles to her name: the critically acclaimed Straight Outta Compton and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. She’s recently wrapped production on two more films, Dude from Olivia Milch and Tragedy Girls.
She’s repped by WME and LINK Entertainment.
