The film (which was previously being circled by Paul Haggis) takes place in Brazil and based on a book written by Monte Reel. Mark Bailey adapted the script and will also serve as the executive producer with Roger Schwartz as co-producer under Chockstone Pictures. The film will also be produced by Steve Schwartz, Ed Saxon, Paula Mae Schwartz, Dave Bartis, and Doug Liman.
The Last of the Tribe is based on reality in that more 40 undiscovered indigenous tribes make their home in the Brazilian Amazon. It is stated in the constitution that if one indigenous tribe member is found living in the wild, the surrounding area is preserved and is not to be commercially exploited. When a tribe member was discovered in 1996 it began a violent struggle for his survival. The film will follow a has-been former Chicago cop who ends up himself in the middle this battle to save the Indian who is, as the title entails, the last of his tribe.
